2001 Best Practices Winner

Best Practices in New Technology Implementation
Peggy Mowry, Vice President, Information Services
Chaco Credit Union, Hamilton, Ohio

Chaco Credit Union’s technology planning was at a crossroads. New front-line software was Windows-based, yet many of the staff were using older “green-screen” terminals. At the same time, CCU was opening a new full-service branch, which would also need the ability to run Windows applications.

By implementing thin client architecture, a user interface where the computing and file storage is handled on one central server, Peggy saved over $22,000 in capital investments the first year alone by not having to replace or upgrade PCs.

With this architecture, Peggy extended network capabilities to each branch while simultaneously reducing administrative time. She is now able to save at 20 hours per upgrade, and 4 hours per new installation, because she no longer has to configure multiple workstations or servers.

Thin client’s session shadowing ability also lets Peggy provide more efficient support and consistent training to all staff, regardless of location. And, on top of everything, her users experienced an increase in processing speed with the new architecture.

Congratulations to Peggy and Chaco Credit Union on their success!
