Strategies to Build Ideal Capital and to Train for Potential Disasters are Focus of Two New Council White Papers
Learn to identify the “ideal” capital level that will optimize the credit union’s competitive position and its safety for members as well as how to best train for disasters and pandemics – in two new CUNA Council white papers. "A Strategic Approach to Ideal Capital: Building a Consensus,” from the CUNA Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Council, overviews the process of finding and planning an ideal capital range based on the credit union’s current and future situation. The paper outlines the main steps – assessment, planning, and execution – along with the details of each step. Next steps and key conclusions are provided, along with worksheets to help assess the credit union’s equity needs. The importance of testing and training based on a credit union’s business continuity and disaster recovery plans is outlined in the second new white paper, “Disaster Preparedness Training,” from the CUNA Human Resources, Training, and Development (HR/TD) Council. The evolution of NCUA expectations over the past few years is detailed, along with a list of training components and various training methods that can be employed. A list of resources for more information and training guides are also provided. CUNA Council members are entitled to complimentary copies of these white papers; non-members may purchase the white papers for a price of $50 per copy. The papers are available online in the white paper section of each council site - select the “CFO” tab for the ideal capital paper, or the “HR/TD” tab for the disaster preparedness paper.
