Member Spotlight: Jackie Buchanan

Jackie Buchanan is the vice president of information technology for T&C Federal Credit Union in Michigan. She has a Bachelor of Accountancy from Walsh College and a Master of Science in Information Systems from Lawrence Technological University. Jackie is also an adjunct graduate professor at Kettering University, where she teaches information technology classes. She is also a member of the CUNA Technology Council Executive Committee and serves on the board of directors for Credit Union Village.

Biggest challenge for 2006

Keeping up with security issues (threats, policy and compliance), and managing vendor and partner relationships to make sure they are too!

Best piece of advice

Try to get involved in more than just the technology of your credit union. Knowing the functional areas of the organization allows you to make greater contributions, and helps your credit union achieve its goals.

Greatest benefit of Council membership

The information-sharing between council members. The Listserv is wonderful.

Best part of my job

Working with a great bunch of people (especially my boss and my team) at a wonderful organization. It doesn't get any better.

The hardest part of my job

Trying to get everything done and making everyone happy at the same time!

Best success story

This year it is our CRM program. We are always fine-tuning and adding to it. Our Information Technology Department has been able to play a key role in this process and do wonderful things in helping our organization execute this business strategy.

Hobbies/interests

Fishing, boating, reading, and good friends.

People would be surprised to learn that I . . .

Passed the CPA exam on the first try, but did not go on to become a CPA. I decided I wanted to work in the technology field instead.
